why
Why this blog, you might wonder? Hopefully, because someone out there, maybe you, will find something of interest here. I truly hope so! But even if no one at all reads my blog (I know my mom won’t, she’s not on the net), then it’s still fine with me. What I want to get out of it for myself is to sort my ideas a little. Ideas about what your different needs and wants as adventure seekers are, ideas about presenting an enhanced experience to you, ideas I have about why we do adventure and why you should, ideas about engaging in life on the “wild-side”. And blogging, I hope, will be a good way of doing just that. Kind of a wall against which to bounce my ideas. So you out there reading my blog, give me your feedback! Let’s hear what you think about what I have to say here. Help me to help you and be my “wall”!
There are a few things I want to, and also need to, achieve in the next year or so. And hopefully this blog will contribute towards reaching my goals.
Firstly I need to (not want to) double my “sales” or turnover. When I started my rafting and adventure business, Outrageous Adventures (
http://www.outrageousadventures.co.za
), I knew that the first few years would be tough, as is the case with most small businesses just starting off. Outrageous Adventures has been running now successfully for 4 odd years or so at basic-level, and we need to get to the next level now.
We need to expand, not only to enhance our lifestyle, but most important to provide an expanded adventure experience for you guys visiting us in Clarens. We are very excited about our recent addition of the archery operation in Clarens, and have several exciting ideas and plans for the future, which I will keep you posted here at this blog.
I believe one way of getting those extra customers is for me to get more into Web 2.0. Hence also this blog. I need to get to know the workings of the ‘new’ internet out there, stuff like interactive websites, social-networking sites like Facebook, blogging of course, You-tube, etc. The future of the net and its workings!
And then, secondly, I want to get back into sport. Make my ‘comeback’! I used to be quite a hotshot triathlete. With big ambitions. I had to make peace, however, with the fact that I will never be a top world-class professional triathlete. Age, life, etc. caught up with me!
(but do have a look here:
http://www.conradstoltz.com
Conrad did make it to being a world champion, awesome)
When I started Outrageous Adventures, I had to get up at 3h00 in the morning to answer e-mails, do the website for Outrageous Adventures, teach myself SEO (Search Engine Optimization), etc. etc. and there was just no more time to train just even for the enjoyment of it. (I still had a “day-job” as an accountant as well at the time). And having kids and family commitments doesn’t make it any easier. But I want to make time again for training. Hopefully, making my plans public here on this blog, will force me to stick to my resolutions!
Let’s see, how together we can realize our dreams – yours of an even more Outrageous Adventure – and mine of a business at the next level – and that long over-due “comeback” – heck if Lance Armstrong can - why not me and you
So there you have it, my main reasons for this blog. I hope you will enjoy it!

This site rocks!

I‘m sure many of you are like me and one of the first things you do in the morning is head here and check out the new post. Along with seeing the new posts, I’m also always checking out the blog roll rss feed and watching them grow, or shrink sometimes. In one of my past …but all in all excellent site. Keep it up!
Just wanted to drop you a line to say, I enjoy reading your site. I thought about starting a blog myself but don’t have the time.
Oh well maybe one day….

My name is Howard Jones and I started kayaking about a year ago, I am a member of the East Rand Kayak Club and train at Homestead dam in Benoni. The reason I bought a kayak is because I am interested in doing multiple day river trips. I train three times a week and do approximately 9km each time. I have twice done a 32km trip down the Vaal ending at the campsite in Villiers, the second trip was last weekend. We started early morning and finished about lunchtime. Although this is an enjoyable trip, it is mostly flat water and I would like to take on something more challenging. I have been looking on Google Earth at the Vaal between the Barrage and Parys and decided to try and find someone who has done it, this is when I came across your blog. I am relatively inexperienced as regards rapids and was wondering how challenging this stretch of river would be. My plan would be to do this over two days and perhaps camp on one of the islands. Do you think this would be too difficult or dangerous for someone of my experience?
Kind regards
Howard Jones
